DISCLAIMER: These courses are based on the Western Australian Curriculum but many of the course concepts and topics should apply to ATAR courses in other States and Territories.
This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to succeed in the Human Biology ATAR Examination. The main ATHBY syllabus concepts covered in Unit 3 are: Nervous and Endocrine System Responses, Homeostasis (blood sugar, thermoregulation, gas concentrations and bodily fluids), Protection Against Invaders (including specific resistance to infections), Biotechnology, Mutations and Evolutionary Mechanisms (fossil evidence, Hominid evolution and tools and culture). The main ATHBY syllabus concepts covered in Unit 4 are: Mutations, evolutionary mechanisms, biotechnology (PCR and gel electrophoresis), bioinformatics, comparative analysis (biochemistry, anatomy and bioinformatics), evidence for evolution (fossils, dating techniques and principle of superposition) and hominid evolution (locomotion, features and tool culture). All of these concepts will be further reinforced with a thorough understanding of scientific inquiry specific to Human Biology ATAR. The teaching videos are accompanied by detailed PowerPoints that provide detailed notes, diagrams and worked past exam questions. These videos allow you to watch, rewind and pause your way through the content at your own desired pace.
